ABSTRAKSI: World Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) adalah salah satu teknologi nirkabel yang memiliki berbagai aplikasi dalam cakupan MAN (Metropolitan Area Network). WiMAX merupakan alternatif untuk menggantikan komunikasi yang berdasarkan kabel, karena memiliki laju pengiriman data yang cepat (high speed bit rate). WiMAX menawarkan beberapa feature yang fleksibel dan sangat potensial untuk dimanfaatkan seperti MAC layer yang kaya akan feature, dapat dimanfaatkan dalam membuat MAC layer frame tanpa melanggar apa yang sudah di standarkan. Ukuran MAC Packet Data Unit yang di keluarkan oleh WiMAX forum mengijinkan ukuran yang bervariasi.
Dalam Tugas akhir ini dilakukan analisa perfomansi dengan simulasi jaringan WiMAX menggunakan program simulator OPNET. Tugas akhir ini fokus terhadap feature yang fleksibel yang disediakan oleh MAC layer (Medium Access Control) dari WiMAX dan memanfaatkannya untuk menyediakan layanan yang terbaik. Metoda yang digunakan adalah feedback adaptif, dimana MPDU (MAC Paket Data Unit) akan berubah-ubah menyesuaikan dengan keadaan kanal. Dalam kasus ini, ARQ akan memiliki peranan penting dalam memperkirakan kondisi saluran dan nasib MPDUs yang telah dikirim
Hasil simulasi didapatkan bahwa dengan menggunaan metoda feedback adaptif pada jaringan WiMAX, didapatkan peningkatkan throughput sebesar 33826 bps untuk layanan video streaming dan 1211 bps untuk FTP serta menurunkan delay sebesar 4.83 ms untuk layanan video streaming dan 38,9 ms untuk layanan FTP. Penggunaan metoda feedback adaptif dapat menekan pengaruh penurunan nilai throughput dari pertambahan user pada satu sel jaringan WiMAX dengan adanya penurunan nilai throughput sebesar 648 bps pada setiap kenaikan satu user pada sel jaringan WiMAX dan menurunkan rata-rata delay sebesar 20,73 ms.Kata Kunci : WiMAX, IEEE 802.16d, MAC layer, dan Optimalisasi MAC PDUABSTRACT: World interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is a wireless technology that has variousapplication within the scope of MAN (Metropolitan Area Network). The size of the MAC Packet Data Unit which is issued by the WiMAX forum allows varying size.
In this final project, performance analysis with the performance of WiMAX network simulation using OPNET simulator program. This final project focused on a flexible feature provided by the MAC (Medium Access Control) layer of WiMAX and use them to provide the best service.The method used is Adaptive feedback, where the MPDU (MAC Packet Data Unit) will adjust adaptive to channel conditions. In this case, ARQ will play a crucial role in estimating the channel condition and the fate of the MPDUs that have been transmitted
The simulation results indicate that the method uses the adaptive feedback on the WiMAX network, obtained increasing the throughput of 33,826 bps for streamingvideo services, and 1211 bps for FTP and lower delay of 4.83 ms for video streaming services and 38.9 ms for the FTP service. The use of adaptive feedback method can suppress the effect of decrease in the value-added user throughput of WiMAX networks in a single cell with an impairment of the throughput of 648 bps on each increase in one user on the WiMAX network of cells and decreasing the average delay 20.73 ms.Keyword: WiMAX, IEEE 802.16, MAC Layer, dan MAC PDU Optimalization
