ABSTRAKSI: Kebutuhan manusia akan komunikasi menuntut manusia untuk mengembangkan system komunikasi yang fleksible, dapat bergerak bebas dan berteknologi baru. Sesuai tuntutan manusia tersebut maka dikembangkan sebuah teknologi baru yang disebut WiMAX. Wimax mengalami banyak perkembangan salah satunya adalah WiMAX IEEE 802.16e dikembangkan untuk mobile user diharapkan mampu memberikan solusi terhadap kebutuhan akses wireless broadband dengan kecepatan tinggi, kapasitas yang besar dan daerah cakupan yang luas dan untuk kebutuhan akan komunikasi wireless yang semakin meningkat.
WiMAX menggunakan teknologi OFDM yang mampu memberikan layanan data hingga 70 Mbps dengan radius 50 km [1]. Teknologi WiMAX di desain untuk melengkapi teknologi access yang telah ada 2G/3G. Dalam intergritas jaringan WiMAX dapat diposisikan sebagai solusi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan bandwith yang tinggi di daerah dense urban. Membicarakan masalah intergritas jaringan antara WiMAX dan UMTS salah satu permasalahannya adalah bagaimana mekanisme terjadinya handover antara WiMAX dan UMTS. Karena Handover merupakan suatu aspek penting dalam sistem radio seluler yang perlu ditangani dan dikaji dengan teliti untuk memastikan hubungan yang telah terjalin akan tetap ada walaupun user berpindah posisi sehingga tidak terjadi drop dalam sistem. Oleh karena itu, Sinkronisasi yang baik antara kedua jaringan tersebut sangat diperlukan untuk menjamin keberhasilan handover
Dari hasil simulasi didapatkan: handover dari jaringan UMTS ke jaringan WiMAX dengan perubahan kecepatan yaitu 3 km/jam, 10 km/jam, 30 km/jam, 100 km/jam. Throughput yang lebih bagus dihasilkan pada handover dari jaringan WiMAX ke UMTS yaitu mencapai 0.6398 Mbps. Packet Loss yang besar yaitu pada handover WiMAX-UMTS dimana mencapai 28.9697%. Delay handover terbesar dari UMTS ke WiMAX adalah pada kecepatan 100 km/jam yaitu 1.1423 ms. Demikian juga delay handover terbesar pada handover dari WiMAX ke UMTS adalah pada kecepatan 100 km/jam yaitu 1.0968 ms.Kata Kunci : Intersystem handover, UMTS, WiMAXABSTRACT: Human need for communication requires people to develop a flexible communications systems, can move freely and new tech. In this final project will simulate the process of intersystem handover from UMTS to WiMAX as a result of the process of user movement. Modeling simulations using Network Simulator 2 software help end result of this final analysis of the simulation results of this optimization to minimize the associated on the success of intersystem handover (UMTS to WiMAX).Keyword: Intersystem handover, UMTS, WiMAX
