ABSTRAKSI: Metode-metode yang ada pada teknik pengolahan citra digital yang dikombinasikan secara terintegrasi akan mampu menganalisis kesehatan citra gigi. Pada saat ini, di tempat perawatan dokter gigi modern, foto citra gigi biasanya sering digunakan sebagai alat dokumentasi, alat pemasaran, dan alat komunikasi untuk menjelaskan prosedur yang dilakukan pada saat perawatan kepada pasien. Selain itu, foto citra gigi juga mempermudah proses komunikasi antara dokter gigi dengan dental laboratory dalam penentuan langkah-langkah medis.
Oleh karena itu, dilakukan analisis terhadap dua buah metode pengolahan citra digital, yang diharapkan mampu diterapkan pada pendeteksian karakteristik citra gigi. Kedua buah metode ini adalah metode Medial Axis Transform (MAT) dilanjutkan dengan metode Histogram Intersection (HI). Kedua metode ini memiliki peranan yang berbeda, dimana suatu metode menangani pendeteksian untuk suatu karakteristik tertentu. Deteksi gigi sendiri melewati dua proses, yang pertama adalah proses deteksi warna gigi, sedangkan proses kedua adalah proses deteksi morphologi gigi. Untuk deteksi warna gigi yang dilakukan merupakan implementasi dari HI dengan cara membandingkan kemiripan distribusi warna antara dua buah citra. Sedangkan untuk proses deteksi morphologi gigi, proses yang dilakukan adalah metode MAT yang dilanjutkan dengan metode HI.
Hasil pada deteksi gigi ini menunjukkan bahwa kedua metode tersebut dapat digunakan untuk pendeteksian gigi dengan akurasi deteksi warna gigi mencapai 75% sedangkan akurasi deteksi morphologi gigi mencapai 58,33 %. Kondisi akurasi deteksi yang paling baik adalah pada deteksi warna gigi pada citra pembanding, akurasi yang dihasilkan mampu mencapai 85,71 %.

Therefore, an analysis of the two methods of digital image processing, which is expected to be applied to the detection of image characteristics of the teeth. Both pieces of this method is a method of Medial Axis Transform (MAT) followed by the method of Histogram Intersection (HI). Both of these methods have different roles, where a detection method for dealing with a particular characteristic. Detection of their own teeth through two processes, the first is the process of tooth color detection, whereas the second process is the process of detection of dental morphology. For the detection of tooth color is made is the implementation of the HI by comparing the color distribution similarity between two images. As for the dental morphology of the detection process, the process is done is MAT method followed by HI method.
Results on the detection of these teeth indicate that both methods can be used for the detection of teeth with tooth color detection accuracy reaches 75% while the dental morphology of detection accuracy reaches 58.33%. Condition of the best detection accuracy is the detection of tooth color in the comparison image, the resulting accuracy can reach 85.71%.
